The Clayton County business community gathered to celebrate leadership, service, and progress during the 72nd Annual Gala hosted by the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce.
The annual event brought together business owners, elected officials, nonprofit leaders, and entrepreneurs from across the county for an evening focused on recognizing the individuals who continue to shape Clayton County’s economic and civic future.
Throughout the evening, the ballroom buzzed with conversations about growth, partnerships, and the shared commitment to strengthening Clayton County’s business environment. The Chamber’s annual gala has become one of the county’s signature events, serving as a moment to celebrate both accomplishments and the people behind them.
But the highlight of the night came when the Chamber presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Bernard Franks, Chief Executive Officer of the Clayton County Water Authority.
The award recognizes individuals whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact on Clayton County.

Franks’ recognition reflects decades of work in public service and infrastructure leadership. As CEO of the Clayton County Water Authority, he has overseen the operations that provide water and wastewater services to residents and businesses throughout the county. While often operating behind the scenes, water infrastructure remains one of the most critical foundations of economic growth and community stability.
Under Franks’ leadership, the Water Authority has continued to expand and modernize its systems while maintaining the reliability and environmental stewardship necessary to support Clayton County’s development.
Colleagues and community leaders often describe Franks as a steady and thoughtful leader whose work ensures that Clayton County’s infrastructure keeps pace with the region’s continued growth.
The Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award highlights not only professional success but also the long-term commitment required to serve a community at this level.
Events like the Clayton County Chamber Gala serve an important role beyond recognition. They bring together the diverse network of people responsible for the county’s progress—business owners, educators, public officials, and civic leaders—creating space for collaboration and new ideas.
The evening was a reminder that Clayton County’s growth is the result of collective leadership. Partnerships between the public and private sectors, along with the dedication of community advocates, continue to move the county forward.
As the night concluded, the message from the room was clear: Clayton County’s future remains strong because of the leaders who continue to invest their time, expertise, and commitment into the community.
For many in attendance, honoring Bernard Franks represented more than a celebration of a career—it was recognition of the kind of leadership that helps build a county prepared for the future.
